- AI tools lean on the same things Google does: your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and mentions on other sites.
- Clear, specific service pages give AI something to quote.
- Matching business details everywhere make you easier to trust.
- You can check where you stand today, in about five minutes.
For years, getting found online meant one thing: ranking on Google. That's changing. More and more people skip the search results and just ask. They open ChatGPT or Gemini, or read the AI Overview at the top of Google, and type something like "Who's the best roofer in Orlando?" The answer is a short list of names.
If your business isn't on that list, that customer may never see you. The good news? AI tools don't pick names at random, and most of what helps is work you should be doing anyway.
How AI tools decide who to recommend
There's no secret directory. When someone asks a local question, AI tools pull from information that's already public, and they favor businesses where that information lines up. In practice, they look at:
- Your website, especially pages that clearly say what you do, where you do it and who it's for.
- Your Google Business Profile: categories, services, hours, photos and description.
- Your reviews, both how many you have and what people actually say.
- Mentions elsewhere, like directories, local news and industry sites.
The more those sources agree, the more confident the AI can be naming you.
Step 1: Build service pages AI can quote
A page called "Services" with a paragraph of general claims gives an AI nothing to repeat. A page called "Roof Repair in Orlando" that explains the problem, the process, the area you cover and the questions people ask gives it everything it needs.
What a strong service page includes
- One service per page, with your city or region in the headline.
- A plain answer to "what is this and who needs it" right at the top.
- Your process, timeline and what makes you different.
- A short FAQ using the questions customers really ask you.

Book a Strategy SessionStep 2: Treat your Google Business Profile like a second homepage
Your profile is one of the most trusted sources for local answers. Choose the most accurate main category, list every service you offer, add real photos often and post updates. Make sure your hours and phone number match your website exactly.
Step 3: Get reviews that say something
The star rating matters, but AI tools also read the words. A review like "They replaced our AC in Kissimmee the same day" is far more useful than "Great job!" When you ask happy customers for a review, ask them to mention what you did for them. And reply to every review, good or bad.
The businesses AI recommends are usually the ones that are easiest to understand and easiest to verify.
Step 4: Get mentioned beyond your own site
A listing on a respected directory, a feature in a local paper, a supplier linking to you. Each one is another source confirming you're real and do what you say. Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere.
Step 5: Check your visibility every month
Open ChatGPT, Gemini and Google and ask what your customers ask: "best [service] in [city]" or "who should I call for [problem]." Write down who shows up. Do it again next month so you can tell whether the work is paying off.
Common questions
Is AI search replacing Google?
Not replacing, but changing it. Google itself now shows AI Overviews above many results. The basics that help you rank on Google also help you show up in AI answers.
How long does it take to show up in AI answers?
It depends on your industry and competition. Website and profile changes can be picked up within weeks. Trust from reviews and mentions builds over months.
